A Nice Idea Every Day are Berlin based directors Vivien Weyrauch and Fabian Röttger. They have established a glowing reputation at the heart of Berlin’s art and video scene, and have gone on to influence video makers around the world. As directors they set out to move, invigorate and surprise the viewer. Popcore is Swedish based directors Anders Forsman and Linus Johannsson who first collaborated with a film, art and photo exhibition in 2005 called ‘Welcome To Europe’. Following from the success of that piece they received two Swedish Grammy nominations for their work for Kent and Laleh, and in 2007 they were nominated for an American Grammy for their Underoath video, ‘Writing on the Walls’. They have since developed a stellar reputation in the UK for videos including the visceral, shimmering light-show for Biffy Clyro’s ‘That Golden Rule’, as well as creating the delirious visual masterpiece for Dizzee Rascal’s hit single, ‘Bonkers’. | Popcore have won a Silver Egg for the innovative piece, ‘Long Live the Right of Public Access’, for the telecom company Telenor, and recently received plaudits for their stop-frame animation for Volvo, ‘Build Your Own Car’. Carl Burgess is a director and designer based in London, known for his dark, visually compelling video work. Carl’s style is refreshingly infused with black humour, as he takes things from everyday life and flips them on their head: his work distorts images of cities and bodies, and he often plays with the false smiles and intense emotions of TV commercials and game shows. | A former art director at digital agency Hi-ReS!, Carl is a technical wiz, often editing and working on post-production himself. He has directed videos for Slayer, Jon Hopkins, Nike, and Ratatat’s song ‘Drugs’, which was nominated for Best Special Effects at the 2010 MVAs. Most recently, he has shot for Skream, ‘Where You Should and Kap Bamino, ‘Obsess’. Born and raised in London, Chris Sweeney is a young director known for his stylish, visually inventive approach to filmmaking. Since joining Colonel Blimp, Chris has achieved wide acclaim directing music videos for Will Young, Foals, Paloma Faith, Marina and the Diamonds, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Friendly Fires. | He has also acquired an exceptional reputation for his fashion films: he directed two films for Yves Saint Laurent which were shown at consecutive Paris Fashion Weeks, and most recently, the stunning ‘Haute Coiffure’ short film for Charlie Le Mindu, which closed his London Fashion Week show 2011. David Wilson is a director who has created a visual style wholly of his own. Originally from an illustration background, David is passionate about music. He first gained recognition for the video for Moray McLaren’s ‘We Got Time’ where he combined live in-camera animation with live action via his use of a Praxinscope and his beautiful hand drawn illustration. In 2009 David picked up “Best New Director” at the UK Music Video Awards, and this year his hand-drawn mind-warp of a video for Japanese Popstars’s ‘Let Go’ was selected for In Book inclusion at the D&AD awards. Dougal Wilson is a director famed for his iconic music videos and commercials. His unique style has influenced filmmakers and artists around the world. A physics graduate from Durham University, Dougal began his career as a copywriter before becoming a director at Blink. Since then, he is responsible for directing an impressively diverse body of work. He has directed commercials for several global brands, winning D&AD Pencils in 2006 for his Orange 'Dance' spot, and again in 2008 for his Big Yellow Storage video. Dougal’s music videos have been equally celebrated for their playful, charming flair. He has won Best Music Video Director at the British CADS twice, as well as claiming The Best Video of the Year twice at The Rushes Soho Shorts Festival. His video for Bat For Lashes ‘What’s A Girl To Do’, won the Best Video of 2007 at the Antville Music Video Awards and was nominated for MTV Best Video award. The direct translation from Swedish of Koja is 'treehouse'. To us, it means an innovative and inspiring Scandinavian couple Tobias Eiving and Ulrika Axen, who form a uniquely dynamic directing team. Tobias and Ulrika both grew up in small, seaside towns in Sweden, before studying at Camberwell College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London, the city where they now live and work. | Koja are skilled in both animation and live action, and their work reflects this mix, as they explore the interaction between these two very different ways of working and thinking. They direct music videos, short films and commercials, and their stunning illustration and animation talent is evident in their visuals for Mika’s recent tour. Lynn Fox is, in fact, three young gentlemen – Patrick Chen, Bastian Glassner and Christian McKenzie – who have garnered a reputation for their stunning visual landscapes, while expanding their work into extraordinarily diverse directions. They met while studying architecture at UCL, and started out as CG artists, creating deep, atmospheric worlds then progressed to making music videos, harnessing a powerful mixture of live action and CG visuals. Lynn Fox exploded onto the scene with their debut work ‘Hayling’ for FC Kahuna, and they cleaned up in the Warp Records & Creative Review competition in 2002 with their piece for Chris Clark’s ‘Gob Coitus’. They went on to win Best New Director at the 2003 CADs, and began their long-standing collaboration with Björk, creating music videos for her, visuals for her World Tour – which won Silver at D&AD – and providing visual accompaniment to her performance at the Olympic Games opening ceremony. Since then, they have worked with other artists such as Incubus, Maximo Park and The Aliens. | Lynn Fox have expanded their repertoire into making high-octane work in the commercials world, showcasing their tremendous variety: from the visually stunning ‘Envy’ advert for Peugeot with EuroRSCG, to their recent, amazingly powerful piece for DFT. Nez Khammal is a super-sharp, slick director making waves both in the U.K. and across the Atlantic. Nez was signed as a director at Colonel Blimp following his debut hit video for M.I.A.’s ‘Jimmy’, a visual feast of bright colours and slick choreography. His immediate follow-up for Kano's 'Hustler', was awarded the Best Urban Music Video prize at the 2008 British VMAs. Since, Nez has gone on to create music videos for the finest British and American artists working today, including Lily Allen, Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Kano, Paolo Nutini and Mika. Most recently he directed the legendary actor Leonard Nimoy in his masterful, quirky video for Bruno Mars’s ‘The Lazy Song’. | Nez has also enjoyed a fast rise in the world of commercials and fashion films. OneInThree is comprised of two incredible creatives: Ross Elliot Cooper and Bugsy Riverbank Steel. The pair met at Central Saint Martins, where they studied graphic design and film and have secured acclaim as a directorial team for pioneering and innovative techniques and film trickery. OneInThree have been nominated for a great number of awards from the likes of Arena Magazine, O2 and D&AD, where their magnificent video for Badly Drawn Boy’s ‘Promises’ earned them an inclusion In Book in 2008. | That same year, they received the most nominations of any new director at the Music Video Awards, where they were nominated for Best New Director, Best Art Direction for ‘Promises’, and Best Budget Video for the eighties-style video for The Teenagers’s single, ‘Make It Happen’. Peter is an award-winning actor, writer, producer and director, who has recently made an enormously successful leap into the world of music videos. Peter co-created the seminal shows ‘Look Around You’ and ‘The Peter Serafinowicz Show’, which both won the Golden Rose at Montreux, while the latter was also nominated for Best Comedy Programme at the 2009 BAFTAs. As an actor, he has starred in ‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Couples Retreat’ and ‘Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace’. Peter has a huge online presence, garnering over half a million Twitter followers and video counts in the tens of millions. | His first foray into music videos came when Hot Chip asked him on Twitter if he’d like to direct their next music video. Sarah is an English director now largely based in Los Angeles, who is enjoying stunning success on both sides of the pond with her unique pop style. Sarah began directing at Colonel Blimp in 2005 and since then she has developed a reputation for her stylish, innovative work with top artists such as Kelly Rowland, Lykke Li, Lily Allen and Annie. She has been nominated for numerous awards, and in 2007 took two of the top prizes at the UK MVAs for Best New Director and Best Pop Video for Lily Allen’s ‘Alfie’. | Sarah has also acquired an exceptional reputation for her fashion films: she directed two films for Yves Saint Laurent which were shown at consecutive Paris Fashion Weeks to wide acclaim.
